Published on The versatile materials and technologies discovered during the Industrial Revolution enabled Victorian architects and homebuilders to construct almost anything they could imagine. A drive through the older areas of many small towns in Ontario will reveal some wonderful examples of Victorian architecture. These stately homes with their intricate gingerbread trim and patterned brickwork are a familiar sight in rural areas too. Many homes combined elements of more than one style, such as the graceful arches, finials and steeply pitched roofs of the Gothic Revival style alongside pillars and fanlights more often seen in the Neo-Classical style. These fascinating homes are a testament to the skills and imaginations of the craftsmen of the day.
